The Cottage Inn at Lake Tahoe

Dogs aren’t allowed at The Cottage Inn. The policies page puts it in capitals: “Absolutely No PETS - Including Emotional SUPPORT ANIMALS. Legitimate Service animals only.” The about page says the same thing in three words. Sorry, no pets. There’s no pet-designated room, no fee schedule, no exception by size.

The emotional-support-animal clause is written out rather than left implied. ESAs are named and excluded, which leaves service animals under the ADA definition as the only animals the inn accepts.

The property sits at 1690 West Lake Boulevard, about two miles south of Tahoe City. Twenty-two rooms in eight cottages across two acres, with beach access opened by a card-key picked up at the front desk. The rest of the house rules run in the same register: no guests under 12, no smoking or vaping anywhere on the premises, checkout at 11 a.m. with a $100-per-hour late fee. Breakfast is made in the lodge and delivered to the room between 7:30 and 9:30.

West Lake Boulevard is otherwise one of the more dog-accessible stretches around Tahoe City, which leaves this address in a pocket of its own. Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge is about a third of a mile down the same road and takes dogs in pet-designated rooms for $60 per stay. William Kent Campground sits a little further south, where the Forest Service allows two leashed pets per site and none on the beach. In town, Basecamp and The Inn at Boatworks both publish policies that allow dogs in rooms.

Office hours run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Check-in is 4 to 7 p.m., with later arrivals accommodated on notice.
