How we verify

Dog policies are the least stable facts in travel. Patio rules change with managers, beach access changes with seasons, and county ordinances change with board votes. Most directories publish once and never look back. We built this site around not doing that.

Dog-Eared Guides — field-tested

Every fact needs a source

No dog-policy claim is published here without a recorded source — the venue's official website or social page, the managing agency's rules page, the county code, or a direct phone confirmation. If we can't verify a claim officially, we either leave it out or label it an open question. We never copy policies from other directories.

The "Verified" badge

Every venue page shows a Verified date: the last day a human-reviewed check confirmed the dog policy against its source. We also record how it was verified — official website, phone call, or in person — and link the source where one exists.

Two badges, three tiers

Not every dog-friendly place says so in writing. Some venues welcome dogs every day and never mention it on their website. Our listings distinguish the difference instead of papering over it:

Visitor-reported listings are candidates for upgrade: when a venue publishes a policy or confirms one by phone, the listing moves to the green badge with the new source attached.

The 90-day rule

Any listing whose verification is older than 90 days is automatically queued for re-checking. If a policy changed, the page changes. If a venue closed, the listing comes down. This runs on a schedule — it doesn't depend on anyone remembering.

Seasonal rules are first-class

In mountain and lake towns, "dog-friendly" often means "dog-friendly from May to October." We record seasonal restrictions — winter trail closures, summer-only patios, ski-season Nordic trail bans — as part of the policy itself, not as a footnote.

Found something wrong?

If a listing doesn't match what you found on the ground, we want to know. Flag it and we'll re-verify. A guide like this is only worth anything if it's right.
