River Ranch Lodge & Restaurant

River Ranch’s deck hangs over a bend of the Truckee River at the bottom of the Alpine Meadows road, close enough to the rapids that rafters pull out directly below the rail. And the lodge’s own site puts the dog policy in writing: “Leashed Dogs Welcome on Outside Patio.”

The lodge sits directly on the Truckee River Trail, about four miles downstream from the 64-Acres trailhead in Tahoe City — a paved riverside path where TCPUD’s rules require a short leash. The patio bar and lunch service runs counter-style with open seating, no reservations. Dinner is 5–9pm nightly, inside and out, with reservations recommended by the lodge. Dogs stay patio-side.

The deck is the summer engine of the place, and by the lodge’s own announcements it occasionally closes for private events. In rafting season the river is the entertainment, boats pulling out below the deck all afternoon. July weekends bring the peak crowds.
