Lake Forest Campground

Lake Forest Campground is 20 sites run by the Tahoe City Public Utility District, set back from the lake off Lake Forest Road at the east end of town. No reservations, ever. First come, first served, and payment runs through the attendant kiosk at the Lake Forest Boat Ramp; when nobody’s on duty, there’s an iron ranger drop box that TCPUD says is checked daily. Check-out is 2pm. Check-in depends on what’s open.

The dog rule comes straight off the district’s campground information sheet: “Dogs OK on leash. Dogs must always be attended to and cannot be left alone in campsite.” The second half of that is the part that shapes a stay. It has no carve-out for a few hours away, and TCPUD publishes no pet fee on top of the nightly rate. There’s a rate discrepancy worth knowing about before arriving with cash: the district’s web page lists $30 per night with a ten-consecutive-day maximum, while the printed information sheet still says $25.

The camping is basic. Pump water from a spigot, portable restrooms in the campground, flush toilets a short walk away at Pomin Park. No showers, no hookups, no dumping station. Quiet hours run 10pm to 7am. Each site has a fire pit and a table, and BBQ use falls under whatever fire restriction is posted on the notice board at the campground entrance. TCPUD’s sheet also says to be bear aware with food and trash, which is the standard north shore reality. Two vehicles per site, maximum.

Vehicle length limits differ between the two official documents. The information sheet allows 30 feet for self-contained motor homes and 25 feet for trailers, with truck-and-trailer combinations disconnected inside the campground; the web page states a flat 25-foot limit.

Lake Forest Beach sits a few blocks north and Pomin Park’s ball fields are next door. The campground sheet covers the campground only — it says nothing about dogs at either one.
