Lake Forest Beach

Placer County’s posted rules for this beach open with the line that settles it: “No dogs allowed on the beach or in the water.” The same rule set covers Commons Beach downtown. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office enforces it out of the Tahoe substation. The county owns the shoreline here; TCPUD operates and maintains it, and TCPUD’s page for the beach says nothing about dogs one way or the other.

The district’s FAQ closes the gap from the other direction. Asked whether Tahoe City has any dog beaches, TCPUD answers: “No. However, dogs are allowed next to the boat ramp in Lake Forest/Pomin Park.” That ramp is about half a mile west along the shore and has its own listing here.

What’s on site, for the record: picnic areas, restrooms, shade, a swimming area, horseshoes, and kayak and SUP racks for rent. Hours are dawn to dusk. Parking is limited — the beach sits at the end of a residential street, at the corner of Bristlecone and Aqua, and the lot is small.

Two claims circulate that the official sources don’t support. Several third-party directories describe a dog-legal stretch at the west end of this beach, past a small footbridge, some of them saying dogs can be off leash there. Neither the county nor TCPUD publishes any such allowance. And the inter-agency Lake Tahoe public beaches site, which tags Skylandia, Kaspian, and 64-Acres as dogs-allowed-with-restrictions, applies no dog tag to this beach at all.

Skylandia is a few minutes west on Lake Forest Road, where leashed dogs are allowed in the park but not on the sand. The county’s rules page notes that rules differ there.
