Wooden Robot’s original location sits at 1440 South Tryon Street in South End. The dog rule is published twice on the brewery’s own site, and both times it lands outside. The FAQ: “We gladly allow well-behaved, leashed dogs on our patios!” The location page shortens it to “We welcome dogs on our patios!” Patios. Not the taproom floor.
Most of this place is indoors. Two bars, the Coffee Bar, the private taproom, and Wooden Robot Kitchen are all inside, which means ordering happens in there while the dog stays out on the Biergarten or patio side.
The leash line is the brewery’s own, printed in its FAQ rather than inferred, which is less common than it should be. County law says the same thing anyway: Mecklenburg’s animal ordinance, Sec. 3-71, requires physical restraint anywhere off your own property. Water bowls are a blank. The FAQ doesn’t mention them, and neither does the location page.
Parking, in the brewery’s words: “There is a parking lot and street parking out front. Please be sure to read the parking signs for updates on parking limits and hours.” The FAQ also points toward rideshare and the Light Rail, on the grounds that spaces are limited.
Two clocks run here. The building is open 8am to 6pm Monday, 8am to 10pm Tuesday through Friday, 9am to 11pm Saturday, and 9am to 8pm Sunday. The kitchen is shorter: lunch and dinner 11am to 9pm Tuesday through Thursday, until 10pm Friday and Saturday, until 8pm Sunday. Breakfast is Friday 8 to 11am and weekends 9 to 11am. The Coffee Bar closes at 4pm most weekdays. Menus are posted as PDFs linked from the location page.
The brewery opened in 2015 under Dan Wade and Josh Patton, a 15-barrel operation the founders describe as blending “the time-honored traditions of Belgian brewing with the innovation of American craft beer.” Wade died in February 2024, and his family took on larger ownership and operating roles.
Mac’s Speed Shop is about a mile and a half south at 2511 South Boulevard. And if indoors is the requirement, the same company’s NoDa taproom answers the dog question the other way: dogs inside and outside, at 416 East 36th Street.
