Free Range Brewing

Free Range Brewing publishes a dog policy on its own site, under a heading that says so: “We love and welcome well-behaved pups! To keep a safe environment to roam in, we do ask that they stay on leashes and out of high-traffic areas.” That’s the whole of it. Leashes, and clearance from wherever people are moving. The same sentence runs on the page for the company’s other location at Camp North End, and neither page separates the taproom from the patio. Which areas count as high-traffic isn’t spelled out. Water bowls go unmentioned across the entire site.

The room is roughly 1,800 square feet of what the brewery calls “a refined industrial space with a laid back atmosphere”: a stage, barrel high-tops, beer garden tables, aging barrels along the walls. Glass roll-up doors make up one side. Open, they put the taproom and the outside patio on the same floor, which is the detail that decides what the space is like on any given afternoon.

Parking sits on the property. There’s also free parallel parking along E 27th Street and a garage on the left side of the E 27th Street entrance.

Hours as posted: Sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday 3 to 10, Friday and Saturday 11 to 11.

Food comes from Vivienne, a Nordic-inspired kitchen operating on site Wednesday through Sunday, with Danish-style røde pølser and Faroese seafood on the board. Kitchen hours run 4 to 9 Wednesday through Friday, 11 to 9 Saturday, 11 to 6 Sunday. Outside food is allowed when the kitchen is closed. The menus are posted as images rather than text, so no dish list is captured in this listing.

Beer is house-brewed and canned on site, with a to-go fridge at the front. The brewery puts the local-sourcing figure at about 95 percent of ingredients across everything it makes.

NoDa Brewing Company is about a mile north on W 32nd. Birdsong Brewing is down N Davidson the other way, toward Optimist Park.
