Animal Medical Hospital & Urgent Care

Animal Medical Hospital sits at 3832 Monroe Road, on the stretch where Chantilly meets Grier Heights. The Coes opened it in 1983 in a fifty-year-old house on this lot, replaced the house with a purpose-built facility in 1992, added an ICU in 2009 and expanded again in 2019. The building now runs about 25,000 square feet with thirteen exam rooms, an isolation ward, and separate surgery and dental suites. The reception area includes a retail section, in the hospital’s own description of it.

Three operations share the roof: the general practice, an urgent care, and Camp AMH, which covers boarding, day camp, and the grooming spa. Boarding is described on the hospital’s canine page as “Indoor only suites” with plush raised bedding and a personal cot. The play areas are synthetic grass, a climate-controlled indoor room, a jungle gym, and a lily pad splash zone. Day camp has a gate on it: “All campers must be approved through an evaluation to attend.” Groups are built “based on your pet’s size and activity level.”

Urgent care is where the directory listings have drifted. Several still carry “24 Hour Urgent Care” in the business name. The hospital’s own urgent care page publishes 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and states the rule directly: “We strongly recommend calling ahead to schedule an appointment, as we do not accept walk-ins.” CARE, at 3726 Latrobe Drive off the same road, is the around-the- clock hospital on this stretch.

Posted hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Sunday. A notice on the front page changes that as of September 1: no doctor appointments or medical services on Sundays, boarding staff still working 7 to 8 every day, client services available Sundays 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
